Mallory Jesperson final

For my final project I constructed a flyer to inform the public about Dressember, a social outreach program aimed at helping all women and raising money to stop human trafficking. I used photos that I’ve taken of myself during this month-long event as well as a few others of my friend’s photos to create a kind of pseudo-wallpaper for the flyer. I made the background more opaque so that the eye is drawn to the actual title of the vent. I also used complementary colors blue and yellow so it couldn’t be visual overload for someone at first glance. At he bottom I included the mission of Dressember and ended it with the #Dressember2014, so if anyone were to use that hashtag while surfing through twitter or instagram, they would be able to find examples and more information on the social activism associated with Dressember.

Final- CC Keller

I chose to design an advertisement for Trident Gum. I love anything with lots of colors so I really like this picture even though its not the best quality (I took it on my phone). I chose a bold font to make a statement and I think the white color helps it to stand out against the colorful background. I know it goes against the rule of thirds but I wanted the focus (the blue piece of gum) to be in the middle or else it might get lost. I added a hashtag because everyone hashtags and it will help the company get into social media more. I tried to keep the depth to the picture by enhancing the lighter and darker parts of the image.

Final: Provo City Campaign

The City of Provo has developed an image that highlights the good things the town has to offer. I could not find any advertising agency that the city hires out to do the work for them but they do have their own marketing team. They do well but I think the city could only benefit from an in depth advertising campaign.
Struck is an agency in Salt Lake that does work for the state of Utah. I hope to work for them one day and I thought having a campaign for a city government on my resume might be helpful.
These are print ads that I've put together for Provo City. They keep in theme with their current strategy. I took all these photos in order to show the outdoor benefits of the city.

We Are BYU--Nate Austin

I know this is a simple picture. But for my final project I am going to make a slide show based on BYU football. It's something I am passionate about and I love sport action pictures. Since this class is open to us to use our imagination within the visual realm, I thought there's nothing I'd rather do than show off what I think of BYU Football.

Clarissa Oliphant Final Project

So my family has a little bee keeping business on the side. Their website is enough to make anyone cringe a little. So I decided to re-do the website based on the principles we have learned this semester. I created the home page for the website as well as three more additional pages.

Bryan Pearson Final

I chose to make this ad with a lot of masculine colors because its an ad for a barbershop. I worked really hard to find fonts that are manly and classic without being tacky. I didn't want it to be just black and white so I made the image a tritone to get some more depth out of it. I worked really hard to space out the text and make sure that it is large enough to be read. At first I had some more images and text but in the end I decided to go with a more simplistic. I wanted to make sure that the focus of the flag was on the hands so I put it in the thirds to make sure the eye went there first. Brett Bertola Final

Twitter Business card render from Brett Bertola on Vimeo.

I have been doing tutorials for after effects and cinema 4d tutorial this semester. This is a twitter business card that I can send to future employers demonstrating my ability to make motion graphics. This is all in 3d. Twitter is where I post things about motion graphics and links to my work. Follow me. The font is Halis R and it is the font I am using to brand myself. It has a fun feel to it and looks professional.

For the Final Project I decided to do "Character Cards". I picked 5 of my favorite characters from a book series I like (Percy Jackson & The Olympians), and created the above cards. I've only included 2 here, as a teaser to my actual printed out project.
For the cards I used Adobe Kuler to help me pick 5 colors that represented the character. Then I also picked a type font to use on the cards. I split it into sections: The title is their name, and then a sub title telling them who they are (Daughter of Athena, Son of Poseidon etc). Then comes the colors, with the color numbers underneath the bubble. Then I have a typography section with different quotes from the character, to help get across their personality. Then a picture of an actor/actress that resembles them, and then an explanation section that details why I picked which colors and how the font represents the character.
I really enjoyed researching and putting this project together, it was so much fun! I hope you guys like it too.

Final Project--TextbookJudge.com

This website has been a semester-long endeavor. The complicated part has been the development behind the design. Colors, shapes, borders and layout has been a fun process. We tried to maintain a commonality among colors, and use outstanding colors (orange, green)  for things that should capture attention. I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for users to use and follow fluidly.

I used an art project that I recently painted as part of my final project.  I was inspired mainly from the Church’s “He Is the Gift” campaign that they are doing right now.  I decided to take a picture of my project which is the starry-night background with the stable below.  I cleaned up some of the lines fixed a few minor mistakes.  Then I added in the phrase that has been used in the campaign.  I tried to create a good balance and go more for an emotional appeal at this time of year when we are so focused on Christmas.

For this assignment I compiled the pictures that I took when I was in Italy this summer to make an advertisement to visit the country. My photos all had a complementary color scheme with there being lots of clues and off whites and browns. I used the rule of thirds in various directions by having a string of photos in the left third of the page, and then by putting the words in the middle third of the page. Instead of having just a blank background I used another picture as the background and made it transparent so the emphasis wasn't on it. The pictures were each taken with a unique perspective as well. The top picture left and middle pictures were taken from a lower angle, the bottom left was taken head on, the bottom right was taken off centered, and the top left was taken from above. I placed the pictures in ways that they related, but it wasn't two buildings next to each other or the two water shots next to each other. For the font I used an old European looking font to fit the Italian theme.

Steven Dawson - Final Project - Word Magic

I made my final project as a background for my blog. To see what my blog looks like with this background, click this link. I chose purples and darks blues as the base for because I wanted it to look like deep space/alternate dimension magic of some kind. Then I chose a Gold color for the word ribbons to contrast with the blues and purples and emphasize the motion of the words from the page into the novel. I put the images from top right to bottom left because that mirrored from how we read, forcing the viewer to look at more than just the body text of my blog.

My biggest concern is that the background is too busy, thats why I included two images, one with the ribbons and one without. I'm mostly interested in ways to improve it's cohesion without losing the motion of the ribbons.

Dave Rowe/Final Project/Tuani Shoes

For my final project I wanted to do a print ad campaign for a local shoe company. I really wanted to highlight the idea that Tuani Shoes can be used as a dress shoe or everyday footwear. I came up with the tagline and headlines to portray this message. The images were provided for me by the client, but I did some cropping as well as flipping so the shoes were presented as a focal point on the rule of thirds lines.

Final Project - Dania Rice

I didn't know where to begin, so I took a picture that I thought was cool, but had no edits yet.  I decided to start applying principles taught in class.  I extended the picture to the right in order to have the rule of thirds.  This made the image better by just that simple stretch.  Then I decided to play with the colors.  My favorite is purple and there was tint so I just made all of the colors match a purple color pallet.  I thought the image couldn't be better, but it was missing a purpose.  This quote is meaningful to my life, and it goes with the image perfectly.  I love the simplicity of white text.  Also, the font was the one that first came up on photoshop.  Any suggestions for the font? Maybe not have any text? Or just a simple word or sentence?

Final Project - James Birdsall - Spectre

I really just wanted to do something with Sean Connery in it and with the announcement of a new James Bond movie that continues a plot from Sir Connery's time- I couldn't resist. I tried to be simplistic in my approach to this movie poster. I wanted to keep it classy so I chose photos that they were in tuxes and kept the color scheme simple to match their clothes. Since a spectre is a kind of ghost I decided to make the image more wispy to give it a kind of ghastly appearance.

Final Project- Blake Dorton

I decided to make a poster to get the word out about the BYU vs Utah basketball game this week. As for the design itself, I chose a font that closely matched the font that is on the "Royal, Stong, & True" shirts. The top area of text has the same color scheme as the royal blue on the shirts, and the rest is white. I felt that this created a very unified color scheme throughout. I feel like the eye will naturally read this from top to bottom. In addition, the photo itself helps the eye to look at the information at the bottom by the way they are pointing. I wanted it to be simple and easy to read. Hopefully this design accomplished that goal.

Final Project - Aaron Hastings - Begin

This image started out as a photo I took against a white plaster wall in my apartment. I took the photo into photoshop to remove some of the light rings on the wall from the spotlight, and made the image black and white. I had to adjust the contrast to put the emphasis off of the glove and on the batarang (Batman throwing star) and I added the text at the bottom. My goal was to make the image an advertising poster for Batman Begins, which used Univers text on their posters. I had to use Myriad Bold because Univers was not available, but the fonts are highly similar. I wanted to make the image look like a police detective with a latex glove on picking up the batarang on a crime scene, as if collecting it for evidence.

Final Project - Eric Slaugh - Album Cover

This is an album cover I made for one of my bands.  I used an analogous color scheme, and used the rule of thirds to put the album title in the bottom third of the cover, with the top of the band logo in the top third.  I made the logo translucent to be able to see the city in the background, and kerned the letters in the logo close together to give more of an impactful appearance.  To give the picture a little more texture, I put larger and smaller faded texts of the album title in the background.  I wanted the focus to be the middle of the picture, so I put a contrast from the dark bottom to the lighter top, putting our logo in the middle to make it more attention-grabbing.

Carrie Duford Final Project: Christmas Card

I made a few versions of this assignment, please comment on which you like best! The idea behind this project was to make a Christmas card for my my family. It is in a tri-fold design where it has a front cover, a middle cover, and an inside design. The design principles that I used are color, typography, emotion and balance or composition. The colors I used: red and green are Christmas colors, so I felt that they would be appropriate. I use adobe.color.com to find the exact shades of each that I wanted. The green is a little lighter than the typical "wintergreen" color because I wanted the design to still have a light element. Also the Christmas tree on the front of the card I made in illustrator. At first I thought that I would do a typography tree, but this seemed to lend itself to the assignment more. The other would have been too much typography on one page. The typography I chose was two fold. The first is the Christmas font. It is from dafont.com. I though that it represented the Christmas season well. This font was also very simple, yet in the Christmas season, so I felt it would help the overall composition. In addition, the second font that I utilized was a handwritten font. This font was streamline enough with the Christmas font that I thought that it would be the best for the rest of the card (other than the title). The emotion I wanted to covey in this assignment was happiness and the Christmas spirit. Neither my husband's family or my family live close, so this, I felt, was a good way to covey the different activities that had taken place this year while celebrating the holiday. Finally, the balance or composition element that I chose to incorporate was triangulation as well as the modernist style. The photos as well as the wreaths and main picture in the inside of the card are all blocked out in triangles. As for the modern style, the card is simple, clean, geometric, directional elements (triangulation) and strong color theme throughout. All in all, this assignment helped me to combine all of the skills I have acquired this past semester in photoshop, illustrator and indesign. The photos were all edited using photoshop, the graphic Christmas tree was created in illustrator and the whole card itself was combined and edited in Indesign.

Final Project - Colton Fullmer - Nature Valley Print Ad

I created an ad campaign for Nature Valley earlier this semester and I decided to add to it by creating a print ad for my final project. The campaign's tagline is "Bringing Nature to You" and is based on a promotional event that will bring an unexpected snowfall to warm cities in America, such as honolulu. By doing this Nature Valley is "Bringing Nature to You" literally. This print ad is focused on promoting the event. The ad utilizes the empty space in the sky between the trees and the headline. There is also a balance between the headline/logo and the skier/trees at the bottom. The white text of the headline makes it stand out against the blue sky, but it also has unity with the clouds in the picture. There is also a contrast between the two types of environment. The skier and the snow do not look like they should belong next to the palm trees and beach. This is what draws the viewers attention into the image. The entire ad uses an analogous color scheme using the colors, blue, green, and yellow. This gives the ad harmony.

Final Project - Reina Trejo

One of my friends recently created an album and needed a cover for it. I decided that this would be the perfect avenue to show the design principles that i've learned in class while also creating something useful. He wasn't sure what he wanted, so I decided to use several different pictures (the bottom right picture was borrowed from http://weheartit.com/entry/group/8722610) and create album covers that gave him a variety of choices. I chose my four favorite album covers that I feel did the best job of portraying what i've learned in class so far. The top two album covers focused on the artist while the bottom two emphasized the title of the album.  I wanted to give each cover its own feel by choosing different color schemes and designs. I also chose fonts that would compliment the feel of the pictures without drawing away from the big picture.  He ultimately chose the bottom left cover.

Arts and Crafts-Skyler Street

So for my final project I wanted to create something that I could give out as a present this Christmas. I chose to create a painting with a triad color scheme (that dark color is actually eggplant not black). So I picked out a color scheme with hues of violet, green, and orange. Since I wanted this to have a happy, silly feeling I chose to go all Jackson Pollock and just toss the paint on a blank canvas. I tried my best to get the colors proportionate. I chose to create a blank white space between the columns to have balance and to create a sense of order to the picture. Those frames I ordered to match the exact colors I used and the pictures in there are just the ones they came with. I haven't put the pictures in that I am going to use just yet, but the fames will be attached to the painting after the pictures are inserted.

Final Project- Becca Harpster- LDS Bridal

Being a journalism student and getting married soon I have read a lot of bridal magazines. I thought doing a Mormon bridal magazine would appeal to a lot of people so I came up with LDS Bridal. I used this picture of my sister I took during her wedding and centered in the middle leaving the top of her dress uncovered to emphasize the modesty. I wanted the title to stand out so I used a light color with Hoefler Text Italic as the font. I wanted to keep the color scheme very simple and harmonious so I stayed with shades of pink to make the important things pop while keeping the other words black. I noticed that in most magazine covers they used different fonts for the headings so I played around with those and found ones that apply to the magazine and catch attention.

Austin DeLaMare - Stop Bullying

This is an advertisement that I created to promote anti-bullying. I used cooler, colder colors to create a more depressing atmosphere, paralleling the painful thoughts experienced by those who are bullied. The idea was to represent that bullies' words last forever in their victims' minds, as if they're tattooed onto their bodies. In terms of hierarchy, I made sure the light was brightest on the arm to draw attention to the tattoos. I darkened everything else to add to the atmosphere and shot the photo using the rule of thirds, with the eyes located in the top right hand corner.

M'Leah Ricker Final Project

Okay, so I had not a clue what I was going to do for my final project. I found some cool self-portrait ideas and thought that might be fun... but the ideas I had didn't work out. I decided to take my self  portrait and something I love and combine them. I've always played the piano, and I love to sing and dance. Music is a form of release and expression for me, and it's an integral part of who I am. I chose to run with that feeling...that music is liberating. Music can speak for me when I have nothing to say.

I used Photoshop to crop the background out of this picture, and then used layers to create the music and text on top. The font used is Sitka, and I felt like it carried with the emotion in this picture. I chose green and pink as complementary colors, and in creating the text I tried to use the rule of thirds. I also aligned my portrait on a grid. I made is slightly off-center to create interest, and the text balances the picture. I feel like there's almost a poster-like quality to the picture. If it was square and had a title, it could be my CD cover or something. (If I was famous. Haha)

Tanner Wadsworth Final Project

My favorite poet recently has been T.S. Eliot. This phrase from his poem The Hollow Men is hauntingly beautiful to me and reminds me why I like poetry in the first place. For this project I tried to create a graphic that would compliment and elaborate on the phrase. I also watched Interstellar recently and developed a mild fixation on black holes. Anyway, I played with the idiom of "getting lost" in someones eyes. The maze is obvious, but I like the way it seems to collapse towards the center, sucking everything into itself.

Intro for WundaBar Pilates

I work the social media for WundaBar Pilates and I made this little video in after effects. I tried to really capture the brand with the main colors and the logo. Not only that, But I tried to design it to look classy and clean. I think the design says a lot about a brand and I tried to get that modern and sophisticated style : ))

The colors are blue, white and black because I felt like these colors best encapsulate the brand. I made sure that "Pilates By Amy Jordan" was included in the logo so those who don't know about the brand, know it was created by her.

Everything is centered so it is easiest on the eyes and I tried not to make anything cluttered.

Final project Eric Morgan - Cost of Freedom

I wanted to create an image out of text for my final project and i think this captures it pretty well.  I used a patriotic color scheme on top of a gray background to help it stand out better. I have done a lot of patriotic things this semester, but this one is a lot more personal. I was talking with a military friend of mine and during the conversation i asked him how the pay was. He told me that for the first 2 years he made less than $20,000 a year. This might be ok for a single guy, but he had a wife and I'm sure others have families they are trying to support as well. I looked into it and for every soldier the cost is split between 142 people and that it comes out to about $140 a year per person. I feel that we should be able to afford to pay our service men and women more to defend our lives and our freedom. The cost should be higher.

Lexi Erickson: Final Project

My final project, I made a poster of Italy. The country is made up of pictures I took in Italy over the summer. The quote on the bottom is in Italian and it means, "I came, I saw, I loved". I chose this quote because it really fit my experience with Italy. I left Italy with a love for the country.
I decided on a grey background to make the colors of the picture stand out more. I tried multiple color backgrounds, and I thought white and grey looked the best, but chose grey to use white font. I thought it looked best. I chose the font because I felt like it fit the attitude of Italy rather well. I liked the serif's and the look of the font. I put the quote at the bottom because of the way Italy is shaped, and the "boot" points towards the bottom, and leads your eyes towards the quote. I also underlined the quote because it brought more emphasis to it.
Even though the pictures are kind of small, I chose some of them by rule of thirds, composition, emphasis, or triangulation. It was kind of hard because I had to fit it into a diamond shape, but I believe it worked for some of them.

For this assignment I wanted to do an infograph. As I thought about what kind of statistics I wanted to show, I looked at other infographs and got the idea to use it as a map to graduation. So I made a how to survive college map. It has several tips that help make school and learning a little less stressful. I used a grid to place every piece of this puzzle. The fonts I chose were easy to read. I wanted the color scheme to be cool colors so it wasn't in your face like bright reds. The icons are all different colors, showing the variety of things you should do.

Sterling Randle Final Project Hill Yeah

For my final project I designed a shirt that I actually printed. The phrase, "Hill Yeah" was something I came up with one day while I was sick. I was trying to think of a unique slogan that I could put on the shirt so people could wear it to football games. Hill is a lot bigger than Yeah to bring the focus to Hill. I added the football to balance it all out. I made these shirts for the Utah State game and unfortunately I think I might have jinxed it...
