Austin DeLaMare - Stop Bullying

This is an advertisement that I created to promote anti-bullying. I used cooler, colder colors to create a more depressing atmosphere, paralleling the painful thoughts experienced by those who are bullied. The idea was to represent that bullies' words last forever in their victims' minds, as if they're tattooed onto their bodies. In terms of hierarchy, I made sure the light was brightest on the arm to draw attention to the tattoos. I darkened everything else to add to the atmosphere and shot the photo using the rule of thirds, with the eyes located in the top right hand corner.

  1. This is a good visual because it puts the viewer in a situation where probably most have been and evicts emotion. Good use of text to wrap around the arm.

  2. You really capture her in this picture and the quote is perfect. Good placement of the text

  3. This is wonderful. Very professional. I can easily see this on a billboard without further editing. How did you get the lettering to look so good on her arm?

  4. @Tanner - Thanks man! The text placement on her arm was made with a combination of displacement maps, warp tool, blur tool, opacity, and blend mode. First I rasterized the text layer, dropped the opacity down to about 75%, changed the blend mode to multiply (not that it makes much of an image because the text was black), made a displacement map from the section of the arm I wanted to place the tattoo on, warped whatever didn't look right to match the arms' curvature, blurred the entire text about 1.8%, and then blurred the edges of the text more to match the depth created by the camera. A little bit of a process, but i like how it turned out in the end :)

  5. This really gets the message across. I think the font is appropriate and the right size for it. Good job!

  6. Austin, I think this is a really great message. I think that the picture as well as the use of typography that you used was just perfect for your displaying the emotion that you wanted to get across to your audience.

  7. This is brilliant. I love the message. It could have worked without the tatooed words but I think it's more in your face this way and I like that about it.

  9. Such an awesome picture that really sells the emotional side of bullying. I love that you can see her mascara running in the background. Great font choice and placement. The only thing I would have done differently was to take the hair tie off her wrist, its kind of distracting and doesn't have anything to do with the message.
