Project #4 I am a child of God - Chelsea Luke

For my fourth project I wanted to do a kind of Mormon ad with a picture of my adorable nephew.  With the picture I put the focus on my nephew and blurred the trees and background.  I also brightened the photo to give it a lighter look and kind of heavenly glow to go with the message.  I picked the phrase " I am a child of God" because I think it went  perfectly with the photo.  I chose blue for the main color with the words because the church uses it a lot with its social media and the brown lettering to tie into the natural colors in the background.

For my final project, I used a photo I took of the Ft. Lauderdale Temple and added text with one of my favorite quotes on it. I focused the most on the fonts and creating a cohesive look, while using more than one font together. I didn't alter the photo, because I wanted to keep the effect of the sun flare untouched. The photo follows the rule of thirds and stays balanced with the text in the empty space beside the Temple. The color scheme is very simple, only using shades of white and blue throughout the photo. I wanted to create kind of like a poster to keep in my room to remind me to stay positive and see the beauty around me.

FInal Project Camilla Crawford "Confidence and Trust"

Having been inspired by the resume's in class I designed one of my own with a focus on balance and minimalism. I chose blue and red fonts to convey trust and confidence along with the theme of the British flag. I used a cross to organize my achievements and keep it balanced. I used InDesign to create the document and downloaded a "Grunge" texture for Photoshop to add an authentic aged look over the cross. I used both script and sans serif fonts and bolded headers to emphasize certain elements of the resume.

For my final project, I made a simple add for Nike's "Magista" line of soccer cleats. I wanted to create something that was simple and added to the already elegant design of the boot. I took this picture using a friend's Magista, and touched up the boot using the spot clean-up tool in Photoshop to create the look of a shoe that was straight out of the factory, rather than used like my friend's shoe. I then created a vignette effect around the boot, as well as brightened up the picture as a whole. I chose a font that closely resembled the font of the "magista" logo on the shoe (I couldn't use the actual font as it cost money to use). Hope you like it.

For the final project I designed and launched my personal website. I was able to incorporate a myriad of visual design principles that we studied in class this semester. The site is meant to provide a clean, modern, professional feel. It features a page for my personal manifesto, resume, portfolio with individual project galleries, and a contact page with links to my social media accounts.

Building the site has been time consuming, but really fun. It has allowed me to demonstrate the creative skills I've been developing, and brand myself with my own unique style. There's still a lot more I plan to add to the site and I hope that the look and feel will improve with each update.

Ashley Frehner - Final Project

For my final project, I created a blog for my aunt. She currently uses one that she made last year to
write about her new life in Hawaii, but has decided that it is kind of boring because it lacks color or
any sort of real design. So I created a layout using a grid that is much more visually interesting. I
made a color palette for the page based off of some of the color choices she used in her pictures and
used a font that had her kind of simple, island feel to it. The pictures and stories I used were also ones
that I felt like captured her own personal brand as I made "her vibe" my main focus while designing.
The pictures were cropped using the rule of thirds and layered with vintage, warm filters.

Shauna Holdaway - Moab Brochure

For my final project I did a brochure to reveal the hidden gems of Moab and draw people to the National Parks within the town. I am going into PR and brochures are often used to promote a campaign or raise money. In this instance I wanted to use relevant information to appeal to the outdoorsy crowd. I used pictures of Moab and matching rock-like font. I included a map for visual effect and to give an idea of what the town included. And rather than talk about the popular activities of camping or hiking I dug up some interesting activities that most people don't know Moab provides.

Annmarie Moore - Final Project

I’m a public relations major and my goal is to eventually work in the music industry. I wanted to design a concert poster and created a fake event called the “The Utah County Community Concerts” where I will have Taylor Swift and The Str!ke perform. Doing this final project I really tried to balance the about color and composition of the poster. Making this poster really helped me learn the different elements of Photoshop and how to layer the image. The background photo of the poster are Polaroid pictures that Taylor Swift used for her 1989 album and I so wanted to try and recreate a polaroid of Taylor as the center image. So I created the white rectangle and put the text below the photo to mirror image the Polaroid pictures in the background.

Cameron Moon-Pillow Song-Kinetic Typography

This was made in After Effects with some illustrations I made in Illustrator. Kinetic Typography is when text is used to tell the story. I animated the text to show what was going on in the song and the emotion conveyed. I used text that looked pillow-like and seemed light-hearted and comforting, similar to how my pillow makes me feel.

For my final I did a series of 7 gifs:

I think gifs are an important form of new emerging media and they are an important tool for sharing ideas and thoughts. This series is called "Art Class" and it is combining classic pieces of art with new technology. I like the idea of bringing old media into the present in a new way. I took this semester to learn how to make gifs in Photoshop. I made each frame individually and combined them into the final, looping animation.

Final- Rock Canyon Park - Taylor Neuffer

I love Rock Canyon. For my final project I decided to take a trip up Rock Canyon and take some pictures of this natural beauty. With these images I decided to create a promotional and informational brochure for Provo Parks and Rec. This Brochure highlights the benefits of Rock Canyon and ways people can stay involved to help preserve it. I used images that worked with each other and tried to keep warms colors consistent through out the brochure.

I made a 77-page graphic design history book. I made it as an inspiration book for when I make advertisements.

Final Project - Sarah Ballard

For my final project, I created two designs for my friend’s bridal shower that I am hosting this weekend. The posters both have my favorite quotes about love. I created these designs using Adobe InDesign. For my magic poster, I used the contrast of black and white to highlight the text and the stars in the background. I used two different fonts to emphasize the key word in the quote: magic. There are black and white stars hidden in the background to tie in with the magic theme.  For the heart poster, I created hearts in the shape of a larger heart and did a subtle fade as the hearts went down the page. Hidden at the right side of the heart is the name of the poet, E.E. Cummings, the author of the quote. I kept the two designs unified by using the same font and black and white color theme.

For my final I did a campaign with Mark Carlson for Khan Academy. Our goal was to position Khan Academy as the key to unlocking a child's potential by visually showing their inner greatness. I did all art direction and photography, Mark was in charge of copywriting.

Dillon Olsen Final

For my final Project I wanted to make somewhat of an infographic about the NBA Championship. The playoffs are about to start and I love the Basketball and the NBA. I wish more people would watch it and be into it. That being said, I wanted to make a graphic that adds some interest to the history of the championship. For instance, the only team to have made it to multiple Finals Series and be undefeated in the Finals are the Chicago Bulls. Thanks to Michael Jordan. Hope you enjoy the graphic, and better yet I hope you enjoy the playoffs! They're amazing!

Justin Alworth- Final

Last week, I had the opportunity to go down to Moab and do some hiking, climbing, and canoeing.  One of the most impressive sights that I saw was the famous "Wall Street" next to the Colorado River.  It is an amazing sight and it was covered with climbers.  While I was watching, I started thinking of the stark contrast between the Wall Street in Manhattan and the Wall Street of Moab.  I thought it would be fun to make a billboard campaign showing the contrast to advertise visitmoab.com

The first thing I did was edit the coloring of both pictures.  I wanted Moab to have more of the bright colors and contrast, and give the "wide open spaces" feel.  I wanted to get angle of New York that would line up back to back with the sandstone cliffs.  I then blurred the middle line of the two pictures so that there was a smooth transition.

I wanted to add something that referred to New York as the tagline, so I came up with "A higher return on investment" to tie in the financial side of Wall street in New York and the size of the sandstone cliffs of Moab.

For the font of "Wall st" I actually used a picture of a Wall Street sign in New York.  I made the contrast really high so that it popped, then I cropped it out and placed it.  I then picked a street sign font for the rest of the white type and matched the color to the Wall street sign.  I picked a more adventurous font for visitmoab.com and matched the color to the sandstone to even out the display.

I commented on 5 projects.

I love Diet Coke, so I decided to make an infographic about it. I used a more minimalist design. There is high contrast between the two colors: silver and red. I also tried to align all of the images and use symmetry and balance to keep it pleasing to the eye. I also only used two fonts throughout the infographic for consistency. The text and images work together to convey the information and facts about Diet Coke.

Robert Hill - Album Cover

My band, Our Future Selves, is recording our first album right now, so I decided to create two versions of the cover art for my final project. I like the monochromatic color scheme, so the first one has lots of open black space and a light burst in the middle. The band name is roughly on the lower third, below the centered band members. I decided to draw the band as caricatures, sort of stick figures, to reflect our personality as a band--serious, but a little bit kooky sometimes. The heads and instruments are much larger than the bodies to make them more cartoonish. For the second I chose a bold, sans-serif font with the same color scheme, and adjusted the kerning and font size until the three letters filled the space.

Michael White APPLE BROCHURE - FINAL PROJECT

For my final project I wanted to try a brochure. Being a PR major I thought this would be applicable for my portfolio and yet still push me to learn new methods with indesign and photoshop. For this brochure I took all of the photos myself (except the watch because I don't know anyone who owns one yet). I used took all of the photos and in photo shop used the lasso tool to take out the background behind them and I tried to give them more of a glow. I also took out the screen on one of them and photoshopped a screen shot of my own screen in its place. Then using indesign I placed all of the photos in a brochure format. For the typography I kept it thin and simple, and for colors I wanted to use grey and white which give it a great contrast with the green phones and watches. I wanted to create the simplicity that APPLE has in their products and I have never seen an APPLE brochure, but if they made one this is how I would imagine it would look like.

For the final project I decided to tell a story with a picture. I took a picture of my hand covered in climbing chalk which helped bring out the texture and give it an aged feel. Then by bringing down the colors I really tried to make the calises and cracks pop. After that I brought back the color of the wedding ring back in to make the ring the focus of the image. The text tells a story and by using a darker color than the ring it doesn't distract the viewer too much from the hand. I also used a perspective that focuses in more on the palm and gives the hand a long view perspective.

Invitation - Final Project

This is an invitation I made for work. They talked about doing a fun booth at the CES International event and send journalists invitations in the mail. I decided to go ahead and make this in case they went forward with it. I really like the background photo and the perspective it shows. You can see the trees and the pathway getting smaller and eventually meeting in the background. I like the colors of it as well and the outdoorsy feel it gave (I had to mess with the photo to get them). I tried to match that feel with the font and with the coloring of the font.
