For this assignment I picked this picture of succulents that I really like. I already liked the color blue of them, so I picked a compound color scheme around it. I like the compound color scheme because although I already liked the blue color, there's quite a lot of it, so I wanted to break it up a little. And I just happened to like how the compound colors looked together. I added the diamonds to add some visual differences to the repeating succulents.

Color Project Hailey Stevens
I used a compound color scheme. I wanted to use fall colors such as brown and orange and also contrasting colors for the food. The image and message are clear and simple. The design is basic and the colors pop, outlining each item.
I commented on: Jenna Randle, Clarissa Oliphant, Heidi Ertel, Dania Rice, and Colton Fullmer.
Color Project #3: Tanner Wadsworth- A bad idea
Andy Warhol and Brigham Young are surely two of the most incompatible people in history. I find the idea of the two meeting each other hilarious. What if Warhol woke up one morning in the middle of the Temple block, or Brigham stumbled accidentally into The Velvet Underground? Color wise, I used loud complementary colors that pop so much as to be almost grating. The flesh tones are a little more subtle and are triadic matches with their backgrounds.

The Color of a Man - Jordan Miki Wheeler
I wanted to take a photo I had taken and change the feel of it completely by using complimentary colors and altering the tints, shades, and tones of the colors and by blending them in the sky. I wanted it to be simple but unique. I used the same Hexadecimal code from what I had created with Kuler for my color base.

Assignment 3 - Color
The color scheme is kind of triadic, The picture originally did not look like that. I cropped it and adjusted the shades, emphasizing the yellows (which are analogous). The blue offers a good contrast to the yellows because it's on the other side of the triadic triangle.

I created this post using a monochromatic color scheme. The company itself has multiple shades of blue, which made it simple to work around in order to match their colors. I think contrast plays a big part in the coloring of it, because the darker blue and lighter blue seem to work off of each other. The light against the dark lets the viewer easily discern lines, as well as see the shapes that are included.
Assignment #3 - Stefan van de Graaff | The Brocks
I used a hexadecimal, triadic color scheme utilizing this bands logo colors as a base. I wanted to make an animated gif (even though the quality sucks on here) because I feel like it captures the attention quicker and is an effective way of portraying color.
I commented on Aaron Adams, Morgan Linford, Doug Heath, Madison Houghton, and Lindsey Peterson.
Assignment #3 Tyler Evenson
After contemplating for a long time what colors I should emphasize, and noticing many sunset pictures already posted, I decided to make the picture that I took at the point of the mountain in Draper black and white, while the font colors are the main focus. I used complimentary colors, but they are both lighter hues.

Assignment 3 - Fathers and Sons - Alex Skinner
This
picture was originally in black and white so I did the best I could to recreate
colors associated with the colors of the time period. The picture was taken in
1965 and I felt that a monochromatic color scheme would be best. The main color was a blue. The grandpas clothing is a gray-violet, the father's a darker blue and the little boys is a color between the two. Because the picture is so old it seemed important to use colors that
matched that, otherwise I would not be true to the era in which it was created. The colors also represent
the people individually, they are not trying to stand out as individuals but as
a single unit, so to use vibrant colors would have ruined the artistic message.
The three words I chose were: Past, Present, Future. Learning from our guest
speaker last time I attempted to let the viewer create their own stories for
the people involved. I felt that past, present, and future let us know enough
about what is going on the picture (Grandfather, father, son) but was also
vague enough that we can create our ending to the story. Also Past, Present, and future correspond in colors with the person they represent. Past the Grandfather, present the father, and future the son.

Courtney Johansson - Assignment #3
I chose a compound color scheme with blue, purple, orange, and yellow. I found this picture I took at the lake one year and I edited the colors and the exposure to make the colors more vivid. The brightness of the yellows and oranges really contrast with the cool purples and blues and blend well together.
I commented on Blakely Gull, Lindsey Peterson, Giulanna Collato, Lexi Erickson, and Ashlyn Allred.
Erin O'Sullivan- Assignment #3- Shade Shoes
I have always loved any shades/hues of brown (especially any shade/hue of brown shoes). I ordered some of my shoes into a line from lightest shade of brown to darkest, almost black. I think it is so cool to see any shades/hues of a color in chronological order. It is also fascinating how the lightest shade and the darkest shade are SO different placed next to each other, but you barely notice the transition when they're placed in order.
I commented on Aaron Adams, Dania Rice, Lindsey Peterson, Ryan Cummings, and Doug Heath's photos.
Complementary Colors - Harry and Lloyd
So I know our class is super down on the blue and orange complementary colors, but Harry and Lloyd are killing this. The pic on the left is the normal and the pic on the right is boosted and has effects for the colors to stand out. I knew these suits were awesome in the movie, but I didn't really think about them being complementary colors. THEY ARE COMPLEMENTARY AWESOME.
Assignment #3 - Dania Rice - C
I had an image that I have been wanting to use for something, but this assignment was a little hard because of the colors of the clothing my brother and I had on. I started playing with filters on the image and I found one that made our bodies more silhouette and you are unable to see the patterns and the colors of our clothing. After this, I was able to have five distinct colors in this image. I found the five different colors that I wanted to use and then made the yellow stand out in this image. The color theme I chose made editing this picture easy because of the dark grey that was the silhouette and that I was also able to have three different shades of the yellow and tan. I love that in the theme, you have a dark color that is drastic compared to the other colors, but in the image, the use of the grey makes is less dramatic. Also, the use of more of the dark grey, the yellows and tans are now the drastic stand out.

Assignment #3 - James Birdsall - Burning Memories
In this image I used harmonious hexadecimal colors (nice ring to it!) to emphasize the fire that is consuming the memory box. The predominately orange photo pulls in two directions: it is destructive and yet hopeful. Orange inspires us to look forward to the future and hope for better things. So although the subject is sad, it also has a sense of confidence. I used various shades of orange because I wanted this picture dark to keep with the mood of the theme.

Assignment #3-Lindsey Peterson-Boston Red Sox
I took the original photo (the bottom one) a few years ago on a trip to Boston. This is at Fenway Park where the Red Sox play. The lone red seat among all the green seats marks where Ted Williams hit the longest home run ever at Fenway. I edited the picture (the top one) on Lightroom to make the colors more vibrant and to cutout the red in the bottom corner so the only focus would be on the red seat. I also cropped it so the red seat was on one of the intersections in the 'rule of thirds'. The colors Red/Green are complementary colors which makes the red seat stand out even more among the green seats.

Assignment #3 Sterling Addison Randle- Self Portrait
Using the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop I made myself monochromatic green because I thought it looked cool and I was eating at Which Wich. I love Which Wich. Am I supposed to write anything else here?
Assignment #3 Aaron Adams - Fishing for Brown Trout
I took this picture of me up in Montana when I was fishing for brown trout recently. Montana can go from layers of green in the spring, to the colors of a brushfire in fall, to a blank white slate in winter and everything in between. In this photo, I used a compound color scheme with the muted option on the Adobe tool. I went into Photoshop to edit these colors and make them complement each other a little more. They are all tones of brown, leading up to white. I left a slight blue in the sky because I felt it looked too dreary without it. However, the browns all change as they roam over the landscape and the creek.
Above is the color scheme I used to help create this picture. Hopefully this helps the brown tones to pop out a little more and show how the blue-white of the snow and sky help to complement the rest of the photo.

Assignment #3: Brandon Henson - The Holy War... Reversed!
What if BYU and Utah decided to swap colors for their next football game against each other in 2016? I thought it would be fun to see what their helmets would look like if that were ever to happen. For BYU, I took the crimson red of Utah (RGB 220, 20, 60) and used a monochromatic color scheme to create the helmet. I used the same approach for the Utah helmet using a monochromatic color scheme with the BYU navy blue (RGB 0, 30, 76). I think monochromatic colors work well for jerseys because the colors are harmonious, there's a range of shades to mesh together, and the set of colors stays generally the same with no outlier color. Since white works with all colors, I used white to give some separation between the other colors. Even with the cool color schemes, for BYU fans like myself, it just doesn't look right... I'm sure Utah fans would feel the same.

Assignment #3 - Morgan Linford - California Home
My scheme is a monochromatic color scheme created on Adobe Color based off of this picture I took back home in California. I feel that the color scheme used looks very warm, but this was in fact, a cold day at the beach, which makes this picture appealing to me. I like that the color is deceiving. I toned the original color (orange) using tinting and shading to create these harmonious colors. These colors could have also been created by taking complementary colors and mixing them, and then toning, but I chose to use a simple, orange hue.

Assignment #3 - Hannah Childs - Dancing
With this assignment I wanted to illustrate the power of
dancing by using color. Dancing is a way
for a person to express themselves, just like art and design. I created this
image by making the silhouette of a dancer and placing her on the same page of
a raindrop. I made the dancer white because the color white is the reflection
of light. White is the presence of all colors. As the dancer touches the raindrop
she adds some of her color to the raindrop. The color scheme I used was
analogous. I picked bright colors because I wanted to show how dancing
brightens the world. Next, I have the black background. I picked black because
black absorbs light and is the absence of color. At the bottom, the raindrop is slowly pushing
the dark away and adding color to the black background. I used brush script MT
italic for the font and made it white. I used this font because dance flows and
this font flows. If I had used a serif font it would not have given the same message.
I also made the font white to help make it stand out and connect to the dancer.

Fashion changes... sometimes - Project #3 Giulianna Collato
![]() |
| After |
Fashion changes every year. In order to stay trendy, one needs to be on top of the new colors and pieces of clothing that will be fashionable next season.
However, those who follow trends, also know that some styles and colors will eventually come back. Fashion is something that renews itself every year, but not necessarily changes into something new.
Having this on mind, I looked for a model that could represent well enough the 90s, and what could be better than the actors and actresses of Friends?
![]() |
| Before |
I took the picture and changed the colors of their clothing, so they could match the scheme color I chose, which happened to be very similar to the scheme colors for this Fall 2014.
Pinks, purples, greens, yellows and blues were once fashionable..... and are back this year.
Ryan Cummings - Assignment #3. 9/11
I took this photo when I visited New York with my wife's family this past May. This is one of the two wells (if you want to call it that) where the World Trade Centers once stood. In the background you see the new World Trade Center. I stuck with the original blue color of the World Trade Center, and matched that same blue with the text of the date. I went with two colors that matched in a triad color scheme and used green to complement the blue from the building. The reason I chose these colors is because both blue and green are colors that are meaningful when given the context of the events that transpired; blue represents love and tranquility, and green represents rebirth and healing. Those themes perfectly describe our nation's sentiments after the 9/11 attacks.

Doug Heath - Assignment 3 - Downtown Sunset
I decided to simply illustrate a city skyline at sunset. I chose a complimentary color scheme using blues and golds, basing it off of the dark blue at the bottom. The different shades of blue were used to show closeness as well as the growing shadows at dusk.

Collin Gingrich: Assignment #3- Duality
I chose to use a complementary color design with a black and white background to make the two colors pop. I decided to use complementary colors because they are essentially opposites. I wanted this idea of opposites to show that there can be two very different sides of one person, or two very different ways to look at a situation. In essence I think this picture is about duality in all things.

Lexi Erickson: Assignment #3
For this color assignment, I used
two colors that complement each other. I also used harmonious colors. The blue
and orange complemented each other. I did change the hues and tones to make the
pattern. I believe the orange and yellow are harmonious colors. I tried to make
the yellow a little bit lighter and more transparent. I chose this font because
it was simple. I used the original colors for the orange and blue before they
were more transparent for the background to make the font. I just added the
turkey for fun!

This design is a book cover for NaNoWriMo. I chose the purples because that color is plot important for the book I'm writing, and I chose the font because it looks archaic and i'm writing a book set back in medieval times.
there's not much else to say, I did this in photoshop, using a base photo as a template for the image. I like how the image maintains contrast while still holding a warm, soothing feeling without becoming too busy.

Assignment Three: Ashlyn Allred, "Flower Dress"
For this assignment, I drew the girl with a pen and then laid flower petals out to create a dress out of the petals. I took a picture of this set up,and then edited the dress, stem, and fluttery elements out of the original background and put them on a new neutral background that did not have distracting shading.
This could be a design for a non-folding notecard or a notepad for to do lists.
I didn't want to add any typography for fear of making it too busy.
I wanted to use flower petals because they naturally have monotonous hues. The green from the stem is a nice complementary color to the pinks in the petals.
I also included my color scheme. As you can see, there are three monotonous hues, a complimentary color, and a neutral.

California Dreamin'
I have chosen to use triadic colors. I think California is an extremely dynamic place. It is a place where dreams come true, where people can be individuals and at the same time it has a very "chill vibe."
I have chosen the black and white photo of the beach to give a very laid back vibe. I have made the pic black and white to relax the audience and also to emphasize the text.
I have made the text Bebas because I feel like it is a very classy and modern font, that also has personality and character.
I chose the color scheme to balance out a very nostalgic and bright color scheme. I chose the yellow for California to symbolize how it is the golden state. It is a warm state with warm springs, falls, winters and summers. I chose the turquoise as part of the scheme to add to the cool color dreamy effect. I loved the magenta with it because I think it gives it a pop and illustrates the states individuality and potential. People have big dreams that are full of extraordinary nature.

Assignment #3 - Colton Fullmer
I wanted to give this a childlike feel to it so I gave it a grain and tried to use basic colors. The trees were created by using analogous colors of green and brown. I also used shade of green based off of the analogous colors I used to create the other greens found in the trees. The mountains were also created by using shaded colors. I used complimentary colors to create the colors used for the sun and the sky. I used a shaded color for the second half of the sun. I used RGB to communicate all of the colors used.

Assignment #3 Mallory Jesperson
For this assignment, I decided to blend two photos together using complimentary colors that emanated warmth and happiness. Color assignment Bryan Pearson
I decided to use a triadic color scheme. The hues are different shades and tones of blue and red. I learned in class that certain colors have certain purposes. I choose to use these colors to add interest to my design. I feel like the colors go very well together and illustrate the edgy beats and lyrics that Tupac is known for.

Nathan Scovill, Color Design Project #3: "Blue Bathroom"
For this project I decided to leave my comfort zone somewhat and try my hand at interior design. I focused on an Analagous color scheme around the Blue area of the color wheel. I used free interior design software to create the design. (Which is partially to blame for the potato image quality)
Learning the software, simple as it was, was the largest challenge for me. Figuring out how to move objects and change colors is surprisingly difficult. Everything that remains white are things that I simply couldn't figure out how to change the color of. But for the most part, it seems to have worked out well.
Let me know what you think of my first ever attempt at interior design!
