Assignment #3: Brandon Henson - The Holy War... Reversed!

What if BYU and Utah decided to swap colors for their next football game against each other in 2016? I thought it would be fun to see what their helmets would look like if that were ever to happen. For BYU, I took the crimson red of Utah (RGB 220, 20, 60) and used a monochromatic color scheme to create the helmet. I used the same approach for the Utah helmet using a monochromatic color scheme with the BYU navy blue (RGB 0, 30, 76). I think monochromatic colors work well for jerseys because the colors are harmonious, there's a range of shades to mesh together, and the set of colors stays generally the same with no outlier color. Since white works with all colors, I used white to give some separation between the other colors. Even with the cool color schemes, for BYU fans like myself, it just doesn't look right... I'm sure Utah fans would feel the same.

I commented on projects from the following:
Sam Thorup, Hannah Childs, Lindsey Peterson, James Birdsall, Todd Bean

  1. Wow, that is just wrong! But creative nonetheless. My brain automatically viewed the Ute helmet as belonging to BYU. I guess it goes to show that color schemes have a more immediate impact than text/logos. Cool idea.

  2. You've found a way to turn two opposing fan bases against you in one photo!

Nevertheless, flipping the color schemes really forced my brain to think as I instantly tried to correct them. Interesting concept.

  5. Good job at designing this image. It's not only a good idea, but it's well executed. When I first saw it, I did not even noticed that you had reversed the colors. It was only until I was looking for pictures to comment on. Thanks for all the detail.

  6. Great concept with the flip. Such a simple way to get a big idea across. Love all the different shades. I didn't even notice at first you had flipped them, which I think was kind of your point.
