Assignment 3 - Fathers and Sons - Alex Skinner

This picture was originally in black and white so I did the best I could to recreate colors associated with the colors of the time period. The picture was taken in 1965 and I felt that a monochromatic color scheme would be best. The main color was a blue. The grandpas clothing is a gray-violet, the father's a darker blue and the little boys is a color between the two. Because the picture is so old it seemed important to use colors that matched that, otherwise I would not be true to the era in which it was created.  The colors also represent the people individually, they are not trying to stand out as individuals but as a single unit, so to use vibrant colors would have ruined the artistic message. The three words I chose were: Past, Present, Future. Learning from our guest speaker last time I attempted to let the viewer create their own stories for the people involved. I felt that past, present, and future let us know enough about what is going on the picture (Grandfather, father, son) but was also vague enough that we can create our ending to the story. Also Past, Present, and future correspond in colors with the person they represent. Past the Grandfather, present the father, and future the son.

I commented on: Ashley Allred, Morgan Linford, Lexi Erickson, Colton Fullmer, and Hayley Herrera

  1. I thought it was really cool that you took a black and white photo and gave color to it. That gave it a great element and has an emotional appeal. Well done!

  3. I'm just impressed that this was a black and white picture and you did that to it. As well i like the the way you combined the colors to tell a story.
