Assignment Three: Ashlyn Allred, "Flower Dress"

For this assignment, I drew the girl with a pen and then laid flower petals out to create a dress out of the petals.  I took a picture of this set up,and then edited the dress, stem, and fluttery elements out of the original background and put them on a new neutral background that did not have distracting shading.
This could be a design for a non-folding notecard or a notepad for to do lists.
I didn't want to add any typography for fear of making it too busy.
I wanted to use flower petals because they naturally have monotonous hues.  The green from the stem is a nice complementary color to the pinks in the petals.
I also included my color scheme.  As you can see, there are three monotonous hues, a complimentary color, and a neutral.

  1. Your image is most striking! I really enjoyed looking at the colors you chose to use. The image seems to take on more and more meaning the more that I look at it. The color scheme is soft, yet distinct in quality. (To me it looks as though she is being followed by flower pedals, like in a Disney movie.)

  7. Ashlyn, I looooove how you created your color scheme using different textures. I think this adds a lot of shading that would not otherwise been noticed from your scheme. You're fantastic!

  8. This is awesome. I really wanted to criticize this but i cant. Not only do you use color flawlessly but you also incorporate other design elements. The rule of thirds nicely done. The colors are so beautiful and make me happy. Maybe find a way to put text in it to incorporate more? i dont know. I love this though.

  9. This picture is beautiful. I love how you created this image by using a real flower and stem. You really though outside the box and I love that. The image make me think of fairies. I love the colors used, each color helps the other pop.
