Burning Shoes

Techniques and Meaning: I didn’t want to aim with my camera, so I used the rule of thirds when taking this image. I also saw that there were lines I could use to lead to the focus of the image (continuation). This was my last day at a job I hated. I wanted to have a picture of a representation of that job burning.  I took this picture on the property of my employer at the time. I used the location and the grill to convey a sense of indifference. The burning of the shoes was used to convey freedom and hatred.

  1. This photo does a good job of representing the story at hand. The burning shows the frustration and ending of a hated job and the picture is set up in a way that draws your eye right to the burning shoes and makes you wonder why. It was very creative and has a good story behind it.

  2. What an awesome idea! This is super cool. I like the rule of thirds in the photo-- the eye is drawn right to the flames which are just off center. I also like how the flames slightly blend into the yellow wall in the background. It makes them seem larger.

  3. This picture works so well! The colors are amazing in this one. The bright colors of the flame contrast really well with the dark colors on the grill and the deeper tones in the shoes. I also like that the background blends with the subject, but doesn't take away from the main focus of the picture. Nice work!

  5. I love the story associated with this story. The hate for the job is perfectly reflected by the burning shoes on the grill. Very eye catching for sure.
