For this assignment I wanted to
capture the spirit of determination and what it looked like. I took this
picture of BYU point guard Kyle Collinsworth, who tore his ACL in the West
Coast Conference basketball tournament last season, and since then has been
working hard to make a full recovery. I thought it would be good for the word
strength to be in the background because it takes great strength to stay
determined through adversary.
The spirit of determination is
accompanied by focus. I decided to capture
an action shot of Kyle doing physical therapy to show how focused he is at
making a full recovery. To achieve our goals we must be willing to make
sacrifices and when you look at this photo, you see the gym is practically empty.
I feel that this shows Kyle is willing to make sacrifices by working out at a
time when the majority athletes are at home relaxing.

So many different emotions can be portrayed in this photo and I think you summed up perfectly how it must feel to be Kyle. The angle also gives the picture so much more depth.
ReplyDeleteI like that you captured Kyle's determination. It is amazing that even after going through his injury, he has tied the ncaa record for triple doubles in a season. I like the spacing and the fact that he is in the front row, ready to get back on the court.
ReplyDeleteThe triangular lines draw the viewer in to Collinsworth, who sits riding on the right third of the photo. It makes me ponder: where does mankind derive its determination from? What drives us to succeed? How many triple doubles will Collinsworth have this season? Will BYU win its first conference tournament since 2001? We don't know. But there is definitely determination here.
