This photo is
appropriate not only for the time of year, Valentine’s Day, but also that we
attend a University that many people call BYU I DO. While trying to figure out what photo
I could take that would have a call to action through the use of type and
image, I thought of my wife and how much better and easier life is when you have
someone to share it with. So in simpler words, tie the knot with your love,
life is so much better when you do. That is what I wanted to illustrate in my
image and wanted to call all the singles of BYU to action!
To approach this, I wanted to depict an image where my
wife was helping me with something I do often. I love ties, and so to make a play
on words to call to action with the phrase “tie the knot,” this image of my
wife helping tie a tie makes the type have a double meaning. I made the entire
photo black and white, and then brought to color the vibrant red tie and the
wedding ring.
To bring the call to action across, I colored the type
the same as the tie as closely as possible. I used a font called Lobster Two,
which I felt looked like a font that would be seen at a wedding. This was to go
hand in hand with the action to get married. I placed the first part of the
phrase at the top, made the second line to align right next to the tie, so the
viewer’s eye would read the first two lines, follow the tie, see the ring, and
then read the call to action at the bottom right of the image. So there is
movement in the photo by placing the type in the top left and bottom right of
the photo.

After class today, I edited my photo based off some of the critiques I got in class. Here is the revised photo that I thought I would post up.

My eye definitely moves through your image...top left to bottom right. Good font choice. I also really like purposeful color usage.
ReplyDeletegreat color tie-ins. The flow is definitely there, and its very clean
ReplyDeleteI really liked the font you used. I also really like how you matched it with the red tie. It really pulls it all together. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love how you used what could be looked on as a casual font! It looks awesome with the contrast between the red and black and white!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute picture! I love how you used black and white and then added the red on the tie and the words to add emphasis on your message. Really clever and persuasive.
ReplyDeleteI like how you used the color contrast and how the tie matches the color of the font. It is interesting, it's almost like any part of the picture that represent the individual alone is in black and white, giving a feeling of dullness...and the element representing the unity like the ring, knot..are in color, which reinforce your message of "it's better with two.."
ReplyDeleteWith your tie being red and really standing out, I think that matches well the emphasis inherent in "tie the knot." Nice job!
