Assignment #2 - Ryan Wells
I thought it would be fun to make a mockup company's landing page prior to a launch. I tried to keep the graphic super simple with the name "JOIN" and keep the spacing consistent even with the boxed J. Also, I used a light drop shadow behind the "COMING MAY 2015" and tried to keep most my fonts pretty consistent. The font I chose to use was "PT Sans" because I like the san serif, clean lines look.
As for the photo itself, I tried to use a couple of mine but really wanted to capture a different look that alluded to the mystery behind the company. So after realizing pictures of doors around my house wouldn't work, I found this image online via Google. I rasterized the photo and then used a blur effect to give it the almost fake looking appearance. Also, I lowered the hue on the blue to make the font stand out more.
The call to action is obviously inputting your information for "exclusive updates" but I really wanted the name itself to be a call to action, hence, "JOIN."
I commented on the following:

Sarah Ballard
Gabe McFadden

Love the set up of the background image--having it centered and then having the company name appear as if it is slightly off to the right makes this much for interesting to look at. Or maybe it's genuinely off-center? I honestly can't tell, but I like the effect. The fonts work well with your design, too.
ReplyDeleteI think you made an awesome decision in choosing to use PT Sans, it really makes your call to action stand out. The shadow behind the text also does a great job in encouraging your audience to act. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love the use of the bold color and the simple font, it helps keep everything easy on the eyes, while still drawing attention to the typography. I really think that your type meshed well.
