I created an advertisement for a fire protection company I blog for called FireAvert. Keeping in mind that we were supposed to produce our own images, I was nervous of how I would stage a fire. Luckily, my brother hosted a bonfire at his house a few weeks ago so I snapped this picture and manipulated it a bit on photoshop to brighten the contrast with the black and the flames. I borrowed the logo used by FireAvert to add continuity with other ads and with our website. I chose a slim font for the name of the company to create a clean, organized feel contributing to the idea of safety. I widened the text spacing on that font to make it more legible. I placed the statement "KITCHEN FIRES KILL" in all caps and in a thick font that creates a warning for the reader. The bold, dark black font makes the statement seem almost unforgivable. Then I used white on the left to invite the readers to do something to protect themselves from theses fires. I kept the font very clean and simple once again.
As awesome as the picture is, I think the fonts help place a sense of fear in the image, making viewers feel that they need FireAvert to protect their home from this hot disaster.

This is very intriguing. It's a very powerful image and I love the placement of your words.I also like the simplicity, very well done!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this, the call to action is very straightforward, but your design is incredibly unique. The contrast between the bright colored fire and the dark typography really draws attention to the words.
ReplyDeleteI like that I instantly knew what your call to action and intentions were by looking at this design. It's daunting. I love that all of the type seems to glow, including the red words in the top lefthand corner.
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast with the fire and your call to action. The fonts are simple but still bold enough to attract attention to your important message.
