Last spring, as the ducks by the pond started having babies, I became obsessed with taking pictures of them. I took around thirty pictures of ducks and turtles. This is one of the last pictures I took. I had to lean over the railing at the pond to get this angle. I loved seeing the ducklings among the turtles, sharing the same space, though they are completely different animals. So when considering this assignment, I realized this picture had a perfect message -- include others who are different from you.
So I wanted to have a font that had a friendly feeling to it. I also looked for a font that had very round curves in the letters that allow curves so that when I put them in a semi-circle, as seen above, they add to that circular shape. The one letter I changed was the capital "I" because I wanted the "I" and the lower case "l" to be distinguished from each other. So I added little serif on the ends. You may not even notice them.
I increased the saturation so the animals stand out. I wanted the yellow on the turtles neck and the ducklings down feathers to especially be noticeable because it links the the two animals together so I increased the yellow hue just a little bit. I also dimmed the highlights on the turtle's shell as best I could so it wasn't too distracting.
I hope when viewers see this, they feel inspired to include those who they might not otherwise associate with.

Very clever with the display of words. Maybe it's my dyslexia but I had the hardest time figuring out what the word actually said. I had to turn my head sidewaysish lol but I love the ducks and turtle together.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the interaction of the typography with he imagery. Green is my favorite color and I like who the colors all work together.
ReplyDeleteGood word play with the subjects. I look the font selection but wish the photo was reversed so inclusive was a little easier to read.
