Final Project- Ally Hawkins

So I am actually a Neuroscience major, but I am minoring in Advertising. So for my final project I wanted to combine those two things that I love! I am a part of a research lab here at BYU and we study anxiety disorders. For my project, I decided to make advertisements for the American Psychological Association so people can become better aware of anxiety and how to fight it. The research group I am apart of uses an EEG machine to measure people's brain waves who have anxiety disorders, and it tells us a lot about what is going on in their brain. So that is where I got the idea for my first advertisement. I used Photoshop to create a brain, and then cut out a wave and put it on the brain. I wanted this picture to convey that by understanding what our brain waves our doing, we can better fight anxiety disorders.
The next two ads, I tried to make more emotional to show how difficult it is for people living with anxiety. I took some pictures of my brother, and used Photoshop and Lightroom to create these advertisements. I chose to have a black background for both of them to create a more serious tone. I then put the last one in black and white, so you could see the text better. I used typography that I thought went well with my message. I wanted these ads to show that though anxiety is an internal problem, and people can't see it, it is still a very real thing. I used the hashtag "fight anxiety" on all three ads to create a call to action for the viewers.
