Wedding Cake Smash - Katherine Poulson

Wedding Cake Smash - Picture Assignment - Katherine Poulson

I took this picture when I was shooting my brother-in-law's wedding. I love the composition of this picture because it captures the happiness of the moment rather well. When I was shooting this I was going for the rule of thirds, trying to put him on the top right and her on the bottom left. Due to the nature of the cake smash, he was moving and the composition was moved. But what I love about this is the detail in the foreground and the blurriness in the background. Everyone in the picture is smiling, conveying the laughter at the scene in the foreground. I did manipulate the picture slightly to bring up the lighting as I had my ISO a little low on my camera. If I were able to take it again, I would have used a faster shutter speed and captured her hand better so it wasn't as blurred. Overall however, I feel that the overall feeling of laughter and happiness is conveyed well in this picture.

  3. The first thin that stuck out to me was your lens focus on the foreground. That highlights the subject for the photo. The image was very thoughtful, with great use of perspective and emphasis.
