The Innocence of Children- Assignment #1-Michael White
The innocence of a child is both re-assuring and comforting. I tried to create this innocence by blurring the background and making the emphasis of the picture on the toddler. This creates innocence because the toddler is satisfied with the toy banana while the television shows that we as adults are not as content with simple things such as bananas (I tried using the rule of thirds with the television). We want the Super Bowl or iPhones that will give us our satisfaction. One last emotion I wanted to create was sympathy. I aimed to do this by making the subject a child and selecting a photo where his eyes were not starring directly at the camera. I think this makes the viewer feel emotionally attached in some minor way giving the viewer greater sympathy.
The techniques I used were the blurring the background with the gaussian blur as well darkening the background. I also wanted to make the contrast between the child and the background be distinct so your eye would naturally go to the child.

This is a cute little photo. The child is absorbed in itself, do its own thing, not in a bad way but just experiencing the world through innocent eyes. I like it.
ReplyDeleteHahaha brilliant. The kid's face--"how did this banana get stuck in here?" Simple, clean, and funny
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute photo! The Gaussian Blur creates a focal point on the toddler. Perfection!
