During the
fall of last year I was able to visit a friend’s cabin in Heber and capture
this moment. The evening prior to this picture being taken was actually very
stressful. Members of our car-pull got lost and so it took a lot longer to get there
than planned. By the time everyone arrived and we got around to preparing the
food people were worn out, wound-up, and very hungry. Tensions were running a
little high in the kitchen and so I decided to escape outside.
As soon
as I shut the door behind me the natural beauty and silence enveloped me. A
feeling of total tranquility came over me. I was in awe of the stunning landscape
and the blissful isolation that came from being in the mountains. As I soaked
up the stillness I snapped this shot to remind me of the peace and beauty I
observed.
My only edit was cropping the image to the right. I wanted to draw attention to the
cabin at the left of the picture and implement the rule of thirds.

I love the lighting in this picture. To me it shows hope along with tranquility. I honestly think this could be a post card, and cannot think of a critique.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Capturing pictures like this is hard! Especially when you have to focus on getting the light balance correct. The contrast between the sky and the ground is stunning and convey's peace very well. It's amazing what happens when you're out in nature.
ReplyDeleteThe placement of the sun in this picture in my opinion is flawless. I love it. the way that it penetrates the picture, but also casts shadows gives the photo depth.
ReplyDeleteWow, this was a brilliant photo. Great use of lighting and distance. I like the white space available, it draws attention to the middle tree with the sun behind it. Looks like a great picture for you portfolio.
ReplyDeleteThis literally looks like a photo that comes with your computer for a background and I'm obsessed with it.
ReplyDeleteThis picture is epic. Concepts like the rule of thirds are well applied, the lighting is natural, and it has the right amount of color saturation (so it doesn't look fake). Seriously, this picture is worthy of a famous "calendar".
