Kyle Lemperle - Assignment 1 - "The Light House"

When I drive home, I always have to make a specific stop on the mountain. It's my thinking place. The Bountiful Temple is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen, and two weeks ago the lighting in the sky captivated perfectly the way I feel about this building.

The emotion that I wanted to capture and convey is peace. As the sun fell into night's sky, its rays rested gently on the the temple's face. As the light left from the sky, it was like a reminder that the temple would always be there. The light combined with its location on the mountain presents a feeling of majesty, which always--to me--fills my heart with peace and my mind with light.

The light from the sun in this picture is completely natural. I didn't tweak it at all. I did, however, darken the road and houses around the temple to add a greater contrast between the light and the dark, in order to add emphasis to the sun's rays and the temple--the focal points.

I commented on the following photos:
Samuel Clayton - Eye of the Beholder
Kensey Berry - Lean into it
Jessilyn Gale - Lakeside serenity
Andrew Forrest - Rock Rebel
Lindsay Combs - Age of Innocence

  1. That's crazy that you didn't even touch the lighting of the sky. Perfect timing of capture! Good choice in darkening the houses. The only alteration I may have made is to put the temple more in the lineup of the thirds section to line with the steeple. Other than that, beautiful shot.

  2. The view is breathtaking, I like how the temple is far to the right, really emphasizing the rule of thirds we talked about in class today.

  6. Awesome picture. The focal point of the image is the temple on the right and the slpe leads your eye slowly to the left. It seems tobe staring and almost watching over the the city from a hill
