Picture Assignment #1 - Big Dipper

The night sky is a beautiful backdrop that has captured people's imagination for millennia and evoked religious fervor in the quiet parts of our hearts. No matter how dark the world becomes, there will always be beauty if we look toward heaven.
The Big Dipper has always been used as a reference for finding one's way through the night, and because of that it is one of the most widely-recognized constellations, for which reasons it became the subject of my photograph. The moon was very bright on the night I shot this, which permitted capturing some nice details in the mountains in the foreground.

I commented on Spencer King, Katherine Poulson, Michael White, Ally Hawkins, Creela Belle Howard

  2. I love this! I think long exposures are so cool because it allows us to see the night sky in such a different way. It is amazing how much light comes from the heavens when it appears to be dark.

  7. I love pictures of the night sky- this is a great shot. The eye is drawn to the stars, but also to the mountains as well.

  8. I love the color contrast of the mountains and how the big dipper points in a line to the hill. It makes me want to forget the bustle of life and take time to look up to the stars.
