Hope is on the horizon
and in a fluffy cloud.
I discovered an abandoned mining town this summer. At night, the ghost town felt like it was straight out of the movies; tatter tarp scratched back and forth against splintery wood as the night's breeze chilled our skin. During the day, the cluster of buildings sparked imaginations of what it could have been.
I was struck by this scene as I rummaged through the ruins. Amidst the destruction of one of the buildings, I saw a clear summer landscape. Perfectly positioned through the doorway, I saw a mountain peak and a pristine, white cloud. It epitomized that feeling of hope that comes during our deepest time of despair.
I blended the message into the image by using graffiti typeface. I dodged the area behind the black type to make it stand out a little more. I burned the area behind the white type to up the contrast and increase visibility. I also altered the sizes of the individual letters in the text, and changed the direction of the text to make it seem like it was done by hand. Lastly, I dropped the opacity on the eraser and used it to make the font seem weathered like the rest of the graffiti on the abandoned building.

This photo is really cool! I love how you were able to make, "Hope is on the horizon," look like it was graffiti on the wall as well. Also, the swear word in the bottom left corner gave me a good laugh
ReplyDeleteI love the perspective of looking at the mountain and cloud through the door frame. It's really creative and captivating. I also love how much the whiteness of the cloud stands out and grabs my attention. Also, it's really cool how you made your typography look like graffiti.
ReplyDeleteI love how the eye is drawn the beautiful mountain views behind the door, but also notices the many "life messages" graffitied on the wall :)
ReplyDeleteMy eyes immediately go right to the mountain and cloud in the background, beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteThis picture is super creative. I love being able to see the mountains and the horizon through the perspective of the beaten down house. It makes your message that much clearer. And the graffiti typography is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI love how well the text blends in! It looks incredible!
