Final Project- Erin O'Sullivan - Eye of the Beholder

When I began thinking about this final project a few weeks ago, I had NO earthly idea what I was going to do. After much thought (and even more failure of attempts at this project), I finally decided to just think about this class and what I have learned from it. Instead of forcing creativity, I decided to let myself feel it. The one thing I learned in this class over everything else is definitely that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I decided to write this and have the top of the phrase in symmetry with the neighboring eyebrow. I split the piece into two sections right down the middle to display balance and I also decided to keep one side black and white and the other colorful because it added more of a contrast as well as displayed what we had talked about in class discussions. The colorful side includes colors of a triadic scheme. Those colors are orange, green, and purple. Lastly, I held the mask up to my face as well as asked my roommate to hold it up to hers to reiterate the fact that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Everyone in this class has made art, we may not have loved everyones pieces and we may not have personally found all "beautiful" but that doesn't mean that they weren't all beautiful to someone. This class has taught me to be open minded to everyone's creativity and I am so thankful that y'all exposed me to your amazing work. A class isn't as fun/great without fun/great peers- so thanks y'all! Good luck!
