For my final project, I decided to create a minimalist book cover for Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid. I chose a sort of monochromatic color scheme with blues and teals. I chose the background color and added texture over it to make it look more like water. The texture is heaviest at the bottom and lighter at the top to look like Ariel is swimming up toward the surface. I applied the rule of thirds for the tail and I chose a serif font because it matched the feel of the entire cover and helped bring it together. I also thought it looked really nice with the texture of the background. The contrast of sizes between "the", "little", and "mermaid" create triangulation in order to draw the eye upward toward the tail. I wanted to create something that was simple, yet compelling. The principles we have learned in the class helped me to make edits necessary to make the book cover look its best.

That is a really nice triangle you have with the title. Did you draw in the little mermaid tale? The color is colors really mesh together well. The only thing I would look out for on this one is the SEN in andersen might be hard to see when printed out. Besides that I think this is really well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great book cover. It makes me think of a ad for the play Little Mermaid. The colors used are perfect and really help set the mood and create emotion. Also, I love the minimalist layout it really adds to the image.
ReplyDeletethis simplicity is the best thing ever. This looks like something i would see in Barnes and Noble. nice color scheme too!
ReplyDeleteI love Disney and I loooved this design. I think you made a great choice with the color scheme, and I love the detail of the fin and the texture
ReplyDeleteVery well done. This is one of the better minimalist covers I've seen done. The colors, font, and Ariel's tail all fit right in to the image without distracting at all. The water texture is terrific.
ReplyDeleteI like the color scheme and simplicity. It looks like it could be the poster for a broadway musical.
ReplyDeleteI really like the font that you chose for this. I think it gives it an adventurous feel.
