Final Project - Aaron Adams - Video Interpretation
Professor Callahan had mentioned in class that we were able to do a video for our final project. I thought that since video is one of my strong points and I'm going into a major that deals heavily in video editing and production, I might as well give it a shot.
I worked for BYUtv Sports for a long time and worked behind the scenes the entire time. I wanted to create an advertisement that would serve two purposes: Pump you up for BYU Sports and get you excited about the product that BYUtv is producing.
Video presented a challenge. I couldn't choose colors as easily. I couldn't fix the text or alter what was already on there. So I focused more on composition. Was the shot tight? Did it follow the rule of thirds? It also made for a few interesting elements. I could shift from a soft focus to a hard focus. I could use multiple moving images. I could react and create intensity and drama as the action was going on on the screen. I tried to stick with home uniforms for the football clips for the heavy blue they provided. Basketball, I tried to stick with home games for the white (and made it even easier to distinguish). The rest of the shots (fans, Cosmo, etc) I tried to go for either heavily blue or heavily white. While color scheming was still difficult, I wanted it to have a theme that viewers could draw to.
I'm not sure how this will be received, but I wanted to go out and do something a little different than we had done all year. I liked how it turned out.
I commented on Samantha Williams, Stefan van de Graaff, Todd Bean, Tyler Evenson, and Ryan Cummings.

This was well put together! I like how it covered all aspects of the station, with the live action and the behind the scenes look. The flow of the video with the music and audio was spot on.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who has done a lot of film editing in my life, I think I can relate with the difficulty. Personally, I think film is potentially the most difficult art form because it captures so many different art forms in one. Your composition was great. The jump cuts flowed well, matched with rhythms, and caught the eye. Over all, well done!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Great composition. I really liked how fluidly you incorporated several different scenes, and the cuts were spot on with the music. Very entertaining. You gonna be in class today? I need to ask you a question haha
ReplyDeleteThis video was awesome. Tons of emotion. Great job. I really liked all the cropping and placement.
ReplyDeleteRad editing dude. Cutting to the beat made me feel so pumped about BYU sports.
ReplyDeleteI really love the music and video, but it's too long. I thought it would end at least 3 times before it actually did
