I took this photo on September 29, but it could have been from any weeknight at my apartment. By 12:00 on a given school night, at least one sleep-deprived person multitasks studying, web-surfing, and Netflix-watching, while another crashes on the floor (look closer). The sagging couch cushions, pushed-aside textbooks, and too-small DI artwork all support the dismal feeling of knowing you have three more hours of accounting homework, two geology quizzes, and just one more episode in this season of Community (thank heavens there's one roommate with a Netflix and a Hulu Plus subscription). Even the grayish-green hue of the fluorescent lighting sets the tone to experience some of the best nights of your life, provided by your college education.
Don't get me wrong. Weekends are great too. But this feeling, this picture, this collective experience of full-time students--this is what college is all about.
This is so true! I cannot tell you how many times I have witnessed this scene or been part of it myself. The hue definitely adds to the feel and I like how you engage the viewer by "hiding" the second person on the floor behind the table. Great image!
