Final Project- National Ice Cream Day

I love flat design. I love the simplicity, the cleanliness, and the boldness. When looking at flat design, there is usually little room for interpretation. It is obvious what you are looking at, and it gets your message across fast! Most of my design work, including my personal logo, is done with flat design. This is why I chose to do flat design for my final project.

Color- I used a triadic color scheme for this poster. Which was perfect to use for the three scoops of ice cream. I felt that the pastel color scheme was needed for this poster because pastel colors are often associated with ice cream or dairy. Also, pastels are a bit relaxing, and when reading the copy, “Solve Your Problems”, it should also put the reader’s mind at ease.

Type- I used American Typewriter Condensed for the font on this poster. I wanted something easy to read, but also fun. The main message is in a larger font size to bring the focus to that message. The sub-message is done in a smaller size, but the same font. It creates differentiation between the two pieces of copy, but with the same font, it still portrays the same fun feeling in the font.

Balance- White space is key for this design, as well as most flat design. The focus when you first look at the poster is the ice cream, which is a little above half way up the page, with the cherry on top being a third of the way up. The main copy surrounds the main image, so it is easy to find, and read. I have considered changing it so that the copy is bent around the bowl of ice cream rather than just straight across. The main copy is center aligned so that it is even with the ice cream. However, the copy at the bottom is left-aligned so if the reader is stopping to read the bottom copy, it is easier to read. A poster like this would be read from top to bottom, not side to side, so the layout works for somebody quickly walking by. They get the message, and the style and colors will help bring the feeling behind the message.

  2. I like that this is simple and there isn't a lot going on. It makes my focus go right on the ice cream and the cool color pallet.

  4. I love the simplicity of this. And, like everyone else has mentioned, the color scheme is awesome. I especially like the top and bottom teal borders.
