Michael Taylor, Final Project

I took this photo while serving my mission in northeastern Argentina. The waterfalls of IguazĂș are located in a national park that is shared by the borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.  Originally, I wanted to put my picture on a newspaper but realized that the picture would only look better if it were bigger and on the cover of a magazine.

The first thing that I did to my picture was working with the exposure. Using a website that was shown to us in class I was able to brighten the picture and make a few different highlights. I added to the contrast of the picture to make it look better and then I was able to fix the shadows to try and make sure that there weren’t any dark places on the picture. After that I bumped up the percentage of clarity, but not too much because I didn’t want it to look fake.

After I had touched up my picture my roommate who is a graphic design major showed me how I could turn my photo into the cover of a magazine. Using adobe I came up with a color scheme that I thought would be good to use for the font of my magazine cover. I didn’t want to take away from the beauty of my picture so I decided to use a simple color scheme that I thought would be complimentary to the colors in the photo.

Lastly, I chose to use the font Trebuchet because I felt like it was a clean font that looked like it could be used on a magazine and not take away from the picture.

  1. Great picture and idea. It all works together to accomplish your message. One little suggestion would be to use another color for the top headline so that it could stick out a little more. Other than that, good job!

  2. Not gonna lie it looks like the picture could easily go on a travel magazine. Awesome.

  3. I really like the faded overhanging...title I guess you would call it. The image is magnificent, and I think the way you structured the surrounding text allows viewers to admire the image and still see the text. Great job!
