Alex Clark--Final Project: Average number of NFL draft picks by conference 2005–2014

My final project consisted of me creating an infographic that I hope will be interesting to those who enjoy college and NFL football. I gathered the NFL draft information of all division–1 college football programs and then categorizing them by conference affiliation.

BYU doesn't belong to any conference as an Independent, so I included them on the infographic of conferences so as to compare and contrast the number of players they've had drafted over the last ten years with other big–time programs from all across the country.

I used Photoshop to create this graphic—my first ever adventure on Photoshop. I used the U.S. map as the background and then grabbed conference logos from all 10 college football conferences.

I then placed the logos on the location of each specific conference's geographical headquarters. I then altered the size of the conference logos proportional to the average number of players drafted from that conference in the past 10 years. This is why the SEC conference logo is largest, while BYU sits about half the size of the smallest Power Five conference, the Big 12 (which, incidentally, is the conference many BYU fans hope to become affiliated with).

After getting the precise proportions, I added the number averages next to each logo. The font is "copper plate gothic light," and I tried to match the type color with the corresponding conference logo.

  1. This is a really cool info-graphic! I love how it shows where each conference is located and teaches you how many kids are drafted from each team in that conference. You did a way good job.
