Color Assignment: Casa de Darcy - Ashley Frehner

I took this picture last semester on my study abroad in London. This is a shot of the gardens at Chatsworth House, or for those of you that are Jane Austen fans, Mr. Darcy's Pemberly estate. I actually didn't do too much to this picture at all because the land is kept nicely and the lighting that day was amazing. My palette consists mainly of shades of green with a lighter, harmonious gold-green color. I saturated these green shades a bit, just to bring the golden color of the light out a little bit more. What really stands out though, are the leaves on the hedge in the foreground and the trees farther off in the background that are a dark shade of a red-orange color. This color is complementary to the various greens and adds depth to the picture. The white-gray color in the background holds the picture together and allows attention to be focused more on the green/red contrast, rather than the sky if it were a bright blue.

  1. So jealous! This is a beautiful photo! You might be blowing out some highlights in the sky, but other than that, I really can't find anything wrong with this. LOVE.

  3. Love this! Looks like something you'd see in a magazine! The colors and the composition of the photo really work. One thing is that the brightest spot of the photo though is the spot in the sky. That's where my eye goes directly and I think it would be cool if the focus was on the lower third of the photo with the greenery. But seriously, great work!

  4. K first off the picture is awesome and perfect placement of the sculpture. The colors are complementary and they are all nature themed. I love it for the photo. The horizon line is perfectly placed as well

  5. I love the colors. They really remind me of fall in England. Although, I would have tried to make the sky a little darker and maybe even in the dark grey colors because England is very rainy in the fall and i feel like it would have matched the green-orange colors better.
