Porter Chelson - Assignment #1 - Egyptian Theater

I took this image when I went to to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City. The photo is of the Egyptian Theater, which is one of the more famous theaters used in the festival.
I like this photo because I think it captures the vibe of the film festival; it's kind of moody. I also like this picture because I think it's composed nicely. I used the rule of thirds, and I really like how the strands of light on the left side of the picture draw your eyes down the street in a new direction that you don't really notice at first.
I edited the image from its original to make it a little darker, and I cropped some of the theater and the ground out of the photo to really bring the theater into the third.

Photos I commented on:

Keith Hubert
Lauren Buchanan
Anna Umstead
Justin Alworth
Lori Bell

  1. I really like the camera angle, the way the theater is up against the right side of the image and the dark background on the left. You did a very good job. Can't think of any critique to give. Well done

  2. Way to go rule of thirds, woot! The empty space accented by the lights capture the artistic mood of the festival.

  3. I love how the color scheme matches the black and blues of the picture. The lights strung across the street provide directionality. Great job!
