This is a picture I took of my roommate when she asked me to meet her outside of the testing center for a pre-test pep talk. She was cramming last minute for a nursing test and allowed me to take pictures on the condition that I did so in silence and promised to leave her alone afterwards. Naturally, I took her words as consent to snap about twenty unflattering shots for my twitter followers. In the process, however, I captured this shot which I think appropriately embodies the anxiety and stress that students feel as they push through those final minutes of studying before taking their midterms.
The photo, captured mid-yawn, feels more natural and candid, but also conveys the overall feeling of exhaustion. It generally follows the rule of thirds and the leading line of the benches directs the attention directly to the textbook, and by extension, my stressed friend. The colors, due to the weather, are more gray, but sunlight still manages to shine through over the mountains in the background. This contrast between background and foreground further exhibit the idea that studying and the coming test are engulfing and the sole focus for my friend in the moment.

This shot is priceless. You were lucky to get this. It definitely portrays the anxiety of studying for a test, though my first thought was she just realized she forgot about a homework assignment she had to turn in and was panicking. Either way, students can relate. It would have been nicer if the coloring were less grey but the camera angle is great. Overall, great picture.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome picture! I think it describes perfectly many emotions we have while studying. And great use of the rule of thirds!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to her so much. You captured a perfect moment.
ReplyDeleteI love how REAL this photo is. #BYUlife
