Mandy Facer Final Project

This semester has been one of healing for me. I've been able to move forward from some past pain by creating art for this class. This opportunity to be creative has been rewarding and therapeutic. To reflect the inner change I've experienced, I wanted to show it visually by following a similar theme to one of my earlier posts (the "I ache for you" one) in terms of general idea (original photo with text overlay) and aesthetic (simple, but evocative), but featuring a more positive message to reflect my current state of progress.

This photograph follows the rule of thirds (something I've struggled with over the semester but have tried to work on after Dr. Cutri's critique). The ridges of the mountains move upwards toward the text and follow triangulation where they meet in the middle. I softened the horizon line a little bit in editing to give the text a nice pillow to rest on. I love simple, clean fonts (thank you, Warren Bingham, for teaching me that) and this one had the same airiness I wanted to achieve with my message.

My favorite part of this piece's composition is the contrast between the rocky mountains and the soft sky. It's a metaphor for my life; I feel like I used to be trapped in a hard place like those mountains and now Heavenly Father has lifted me up to a healthier state of mind and life and blessed me with some perspective on the situation.

I commented on Brandon Henson, Spencer Evans, Blakely Gull, Morgan Linford and Benton Challis.

  1. I love everything about this. I hope you can get big print of it because it is super cool. I took a super deep breath relaxed breath just looking at this.

  2. I took a deep breath as I saw this so cudos for creating that effect. I really like the text in this project. Its simple and does not draw away from the picture.

  3. I actually like it that you left the type so small. I had to take in the whole scene before I saw the message to relax. Which I did. Good job.

  4. It's funny what an awesome picture like this can do. I subconsciously took a deep breath when I saw it and only realized that after I saw the words! Great job with the colors too!
