Color Assignment: Sarah Davies

For this assignment I decided to use a photo taken of me overlooking Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives in fall of 2012 while participating in a BYU study abroad program. I initially decided to use this picture because of its natural use of complimentary colors (blue and orange) which can be found opposite each other on the color wheel. I also found that the different hues displayed by the rays of sunlight (orange and yellow) work well together as they are harmonious colors and can be found right next to each other on the color wheel. As far as editing the picture, I made a special effort to enhance the warmth and vibrance of the picture because I wanted to really bring out the distant silhouette of Jerusalem's iconic Dome of The Rock. I also wanted to create a contrast between the darkness in the right corner and the bright beams of the sun. I hoped for this stark contrast to convey the idea that the experiences I had in the Holy Land brought new found light and perspective to my life.

2. Hannah Maines
3. Charlotte Duerden
4. Marissa Liu
5. Ryan Wells

  1. I absolutely love the mixture of colors. It starts bright and gets darker, but it doesn't overwhelm with a bunch of shades. Well done!

  3. This looks like it came straight out of LOTR. You look like an elf overlooking the darkness into the horizon. Great job, i'm sure you made the big man proud.
